There must be something special about a state that has produced so many important and diverse individuals! If you are looking for new job opportunities – or just a change in your life – you really should consider Arkansas. The climate is great, the cost of living is low and there are endless things to do and see. Plus there are many jobs available for unarmed security guards in both urban and small town settings all over the State.
Once you’ve seen Arkansas you will understand why they call it The Natural State – there’s plenty of it! Over 600,000 acres of lakes cover the State and nearly 10,000 acres of rivers and streams. Canoeing and fishing are just some of the activities that are popular here. One of those rivers, the Buffalo, is one of the last remaining unpolluted, un-dammed rivers in the Lower 48. The Ozark National Forest in Northwest Arkansas covers over one million acres alone and is very popular with deer hunters. You’ll also find six National Parks, 10 scenic byways (7 National and 3 State) and 50 State Parks. Of course nature and natural settings aren’t limited to rural areas. There are city and county parks everywhere, including Burns Park, in North Little Rock, one of the largest municipal parks in the country, covering 1700 acres!
Minimum Requirements
According to the Arkansas state police department, to become an unarmed security guard in Arkansas you must apply for a security position with a security company and they will take care of training and if required, any licensing with the state of Arkansas.
However, no license is required for unarmed security guards. However, potential applicant must meet other basic qualifications.

High school diploma, G.E.D or equivalent certificate

The temperate climate here in this part of the South makes it easy to get outside and enjoy the outdoors year ‘round. Situated between Louisiana and Missouri, Arkansas is not too hot, but not too cold either. Arkansans are blessed with four beautiful seasons each year, with long enjoyable springs and falls. In July and August you can expect highs in the low 90s, although the humidity will be high. Each winter, a mere five inches of snow will fall (approximately) with overnight lows of about 32 degrees and daytime highs in the low 50s!
The beautiful climate makes this a comfortable place to live and also to work as an unarmed security guard. Arkansas is in the “sweet spot” of weather for the United States – not too hot and not too cold. The weather is never so extreme that it causes too much trouble for security teams. Sure, occasionally severe weather can occur – like tornadoes or flooding – but that’s rare. A security guard in Arkansas doesn’t have to deal with many weather-related issues except for occasional icy walkways in winter or over-heated individuals in summer. It’s pretty ideal!
The State Capitol, Little Rock, sits nearly at the geographic center of Arkansas. Besides being the center of government, Little Rock is also the financial center of the State. Like most capitol cities, it’s also home to museums, charitable foundations, theater companies, colleges and healthcare organizations. Some specific organizations to note in Little Rock include the Clinton Presidential Library, Little Rock Air Force Base, the Stephens Group/Stephens Inc./Stephens Media, Acxiom Corporation and the national headquarters for Dillard’s.
You should check out Fayetteville in Northwest Arkansas if you enjoy watching NCAA sports or working with young people. Home of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville is all about the Razorbacks! Over 26,000 students attend the university annually which creates a huge number of internal security positions. There are also many non-university security jobs created in the service industry in Fayetteville as a result of the student clientele.
History and historic tourism is an important part of the economy for Arkansas. Two towns that are very involved are Hot Springs and Eureka Springs. Both of these towns were developed back in the late 1800s as health resorts for the ill and wealthy. Many of the original buildings and bath houses from the Victorian era have been restored in both towns – either for their original use or as museums and shops. Security is always a high priority where tourism dollars are concerned, of course. Remember, however, working with tourists is not a good fit for every security guard. It is important to note that although these towns are in completely different areas of the State, both are situated in beautiful areas!
If you don’t consider yourself a “people person,” don’t worry. There are plenty of security guard positions all over Arkansas where chatting and smiling aren’t required – only a responsible, reliable individual! For instance, the petroleum industry is located down by the Louisiana border, including Murphy Oil Corporation’s headquarters. In Springdale, you’ll find the headquarters of Tyson Foods, as well as the world’s largest poultry plant! J.B. Hunt Transport Services is headquartered in Lowell and USA Truck is headquartered in Van Buren. These are all major players on the national scene, with their headquarters in Arkansas.
